Shipping, Receiving, and Materials Manager

- The hiring range for this role is typically between $85,000 and $105,000 annually, with the full range extending to $125,000 annually, based on experience, internal equity, and career progression
Primary Function
The Shipping, Receiving, and Materials Manager leads the daily execution of shipping, receiving, inventory control, material handling, storage, staging, and internal material movement. This position is accountable for safe, accurate, and timely material flow and for maintaining alignment between physical inventory and ERP transactions. The manager establishes daily priorities, assigns work, develops team capabilities, and resolves operational issues.
Essential Responsibilities
Lead daily Shipping, Receiving, and Materials operations, including workload planning, task assignment, staffing coordination, and priority management.
Coach and train employees while reinforcing accountability, performance expectations, safety requirements, and established procedures.
Ensure incoming materials are unloaded safely, inspected, verified against purchase orders and packing slips, labeled, accurately received in the ERP system, and routed appropriately.
Oversee outbound shipments, including preparation, packaging, carrier coordination, documentation, scheduling, tracking, and discrepancy resolution.
Maintain inventory integrity through accurate and timely transactions, transfers, adjustments, reconciliations, and cycle counts.
Investigate inventory variances, damaged materials, receiving discrepancies, and transaction errors to determine root cause and ensure corrective follow-through.
Ensure materials are properly identified, organized, stored, staged, and efficiently moved between receiving, warehousing, production, shipping, and off-site locations.
Coordinate daily material priorities with internal stakeholders and identify risks that could affect project, production, or customer requirements.
Maintain clean, safe, organized, and efficient warehouse areas.
Serve as the primary operational escalation point for urgent shipments, carrier issues, material discrepancies, inventory variances, and competing priorities.
Develop and maintain standard work, visual controls, training expectations, and operating routines that improve safety, accuracy, throughput, and responsiveness.
Communicate operational status, constraints, risks, and escalations to leadership and affected stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
Seven or more years of progressive experience in shipping, receiving, material handling, inventory control, warehousing, logistics, or related environment required.
Experience leading six or more employees and coordinating daily work in a warehouse or logistics environment required.
Experience using ERP or inventory-management systems required; NetSuite experience preferred.
Strong attention to detail, organization, documentation, and follow-through.
Demonstrated leadership, coaching, delegation, conflict-resolution, and operational problem-solving skills.
Ability to convert project and production priorities into clear daily assignments and adapt effectively to changing requirements.
Strong knowledge of shipping, receiving, logistics (both domestic and international), inventory control, material handling, inventory transactions.
Working knowledge of part numbers, Bills of Materials, revision control, purchase orders, packing slips, packaging, and material traceability.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily in warehouse, inventory, shipping and receiving, and production environments. Regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and movement throughout the facility are required. The position may require standing in different positions for extended shifts, lifting and moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, operating material-handling equipment when appropriately certified, and traveling between company facilities or supplier locations.
