Sigma Design has collaborated with an Aerospace/Telecommunications company seeking an experienced Controls Technician to join their facility in Kirkland, WA. This company is committed to bringing fast and affordable broadband to underserved populations across the world. This position is contract with an expected duration of 6 months with the possibility to extend. This role is In-Office

  • Salary: $90,000-$115,000 annually

Primary Function:
The Controls Engineering Technician will support the development and maintenance of automated satellite test systems by troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic components. This role involves installing, testing, and maintaining control system elements while ensuring the reliable operation of satellite environmental test chambers and automation equipment.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain regularly scheduled preventative maintenance of control system elements: sensors, actuators, electrical. electronic and mechanical elements subject to wear and tear.
  • Troubleshoot and repair failed or faulty electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and GN2/LN2 systems and devices.
  • Install, test, and validate new control system elements and devices.
  • Support day to day operation of satellite environmental test chambers, carry out chamber operations, and back-up and train chamber operators as needed.
  • Assemble mechanical components of automation equipment.
  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
  • Associates Degree or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience preferred
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and install wiring for low voltage electrical and electronic devices.
  • Basic understanding of calibration methods, ability to use mechanical shop tools, and familiarity with electrical and electronic test and measurement instruments including power supplies and multimeters.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming, HMI design, command line usage, and scripting languages.
  • Experience operating, tuning and repairing motion control systems.
  • Willingness to share oncall work responsibilities.
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders safely and effectively.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Experience working with common hand tools on tasks such as assembly or maintenance of equipment
  • ITAR - Permanent resident of the United States (“U.S. person” as defined by ITAR)
  • Background - Pass a post-offer background verification.
Work Environment
Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
