Electromechanical Characterization Engineer
(Contract for Client)

SIGMADESIGN has collaborated with a consumer electronics company seeking an experienced Electromechanical Characterization Engineer to join their facility in Redmond, WA. This position is a contract with an expected duration of 12 months with the opportunity to be extended.

  • Salary: $115,000-140,000/year DOE

Primary Function:
The Electromechanical Characterization Engineer will conduct a variety of engineering experiments aimed at characterizing electromechanical responses of components and systems in support of large, cross-functional teams.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
  • Autonomous set-up & execution of experiments involving fluid handling and/or actuation and/or mechanical analysis; characterization and analysis of electromechanical responses
  • Synchronized high-speed data acquisition, processing, analysis, and reporting
  • Recommending/executing follow-up or next steps with limited oversight

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)
  • BS in Physics or Engineering and 2-5 years professional hands-on characterization experience
  • Experience employing electrical characterization tools & equipment, automation tools & programming, (e.g. MatLab, NI PIXIe, Daq interfaces, etc.) in a laboratory setting to complete engineering characterization experiments
  • Ability to execute multistep experimental plans following scientific method with limited oversight
  • Data analysis, reporting, and comparison with modeled/expected responses
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Physics or Engineering
  • Familiarity with mechanical testing and characterization, including tensile, pull, shear, etc. with UTM’s or equivalent
  • Familiarity with manual and semi-automatic semiconductor probe stations
  • Familiarity with sensing/measuring of small forces & displacements
  • Experience with high-speed cameras & other optical sensors
  • Familiarity with design of experiments
  • Facility with data analysis algorithms & automation including large data set handling, edge/derivative detection and other automated image analysis methods
  • Cleanroom experience including metrology and/or process experience

Work Environment:
Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
