Position Details:
- The hiring range for this role is typically between $25.00 and $31.00 an hour, with the full range extending to $37.00 an hour, based on experience, internal equity, and career progression
- This position will be In-Office
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Machinist II independently sets up and operates CNC machinery according to blueprint specifications with minimal supervision. This role requires specific experience with lathe work, including Haas ST-20, and 5-axis machining experience, specifically on a Kitamura machining center.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
- Independently repairs and fabricates parts by operating mechanical equipment
- Sets up, operates, and monitors CNC machine output with minimal supervision
- Makes mechanical and/or program adjustments to ensure parts meet quality requirements
- Interprets complex blueprints and basic GD&T symbols to ensure proper dimensions and tolerances
- Analyzes engineering drawings, blueprints, models, and design data to machine parts to specification
- Owns full setups with minimal supervision
- Sets up and operates Haas ST-20 lathe, Haas mills, Kitamura 5-axis machining center with minimal supervision
- Takes precise measurements and selects appropriate machines for processes
- Uses precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, fixtures, and gauges
- Accurately measures dimensions within print tolerance
- Makes minor G&M code edits (offsets, tooling, macros)
- Identifies and resolves common machining issues independently
- Follows all safe work practices & safety rules
- Mentors entry-level machinists in machine operation and basic techniques
- Communicates setup and troubleshooting information effectively
- Suggests improvements to processes and productivity
- Carries out other duties as required by the Model Shop Manager
- Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
- Requires minimal supervision for standard operations
- Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to CNC machining
- Works independently within established procedures
- Experience with Haas and Arumatik-Mi controls
- Building confidence and technical breadth in machining discipline
- Understanding of basic GD&T symbols and their application
- Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
- Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values
- Pass a post-offer background verification
Work Environment:
Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
